Fought the battle, Israel was defeated by the Philistines. And they died in that encounter in the open country, about four thousand men. 3The people returned to the camp, and the elders of Israel said, "Why did the Lord that today we were defeated by the Philistines? We will seek to Shiloh the ark of the covenant of the Lord that she is among us and save us from the hand of our enemies. " 4Then the people sent for Shiloh the ark of the covenant of the Lord Almighty, who sits on the cherubim. The two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, accompanied the ark. 5When the ark of the covenant of the Lord arrived at the camp, all Israel broke a great cry that resounded throughout the land. 6The Philistines heard it, said, "What is this uproar so great in the Hebrew camp?" And they understood that the ark of the LORD had come to the camp. 7The Philistines were afraid and said, "God has come into the camp!" And lamented-: 8 "Woe to us! Because the Hebrews were not with the joy either yesterday or the day before yesterday. Woe to us! Who will save us from the hand of these so powerful gods? They were the ones that plagued Egypt with all manner of plagues in the wilderness. 9 But courage, Philistines, quit you like men, that ye be not servants to the Hebrews as they have been to you! Be men and then fight! 10Then the Philistines launched the fight, Israel was defeated and every man fled to his tent. The massacre was great: the Israeli side fell thirty thousand men. 11A ark of God was captured and killed the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas.

The Living Flame of Love, stanza 2

"Jesus reached out and touched him"
O Divine Life, Thou shalt not burrows to kill, but to give life; Do not feres, but to heal. When punish, burrows slightly and that is enough to consume the world. When afagas, lieth deliberately thy strong hand, the sweetness of your caress does not measure. O Divine Hand, hurt me to heal; you do die on me which deprives me of the life of God, in whom I now see me alive. And you do that by your generous grace, through the touch of one who is "the splendor of your glory, the figure of thy substance" (Heb 1.3), your only Son, thy wisdom that "extends to force a end to the other of the world "(Sat 8.1). He, thine only Son, merciful hand of the Father, is the delicate touch that touched me, it struck and burned within.
O delicate touch, Word Son of God, you freeloaders subtly in our soul by the gentleness of your divine being; touch her so gently that absorves fully in You, a so divine and so smoothly "than ever this is heard in Canaan, never so seen in the country of Teman" (Bar 3:22). O delicate touch of the Word, as more delicate to me as, knocking the mountains and breaking the rocks of Mount Horeb by the shadow of power Te preceded, You did feel the prophet Elijah so smoothly and strong "in the air whisper delicate» (1 Kings 19,11). As thou slight and subtle breeze? Tell me how burrows so so light and delicate, O Word, Son of God, you who are so powerful and terrible. Happy, a thousand times happy, the soul you touch so delicate way! [...] "You guards in the secret of thy face, that is, from your Word, your Son, under the intrigues of men" (Ps 30.21).

loose homilies About paralytic

"Seeing the faith of these people"
This paralytic had faith in Jesus Christ. Proof of this is the way it was presented to Christ, and let him down through the roof of the house. [...] You know that patients are in such a big rebate and bad humor that often the good care provided to them to grieve. [...] But this paralytic is pleased to be taken out of your room and be seen publicly, through to their misery the squares and streets. [...]
This paralytic does not suffer from self-esteem. The crowd around the house where the Salvador, all passages are closed, the input fraught. It does not matter! Will be introduced through the ceiling and is happy: how skilled is love, how ingenious charity! "He who seeks finds; and to him who knocks shall open "(Mt 7,8) This patient did not ask to friends that transport:" What are they doing? Why so much trouble? Why such ardor? Expect that the house is empty and departing all. Then we can introduce us to Jesus, when He is almost alone ... "No, the paralytic does not think anything of it; It is a glory for him to be a large number of witnesses of his cure.

Comment of the day by St. Amadeu de Lausanne, Cistercian monk, Bishop
4th Marian homily

"Mary kept all these things and pondered them in her heart."
When for the first time, took in his arms Boy, Emmanuel, Mary discerned in him a far more beautiful light than the sun, felt a fire that no water could have deleted. He received hidden in that little body that had just been born it, the dazzling light that illuminates everything and deserved to be in the arms of God the Word, which sustains all that exists (Heb 1.3). As there would be left filled with the knowledge of God, which wave overflowing sea (Isaiah 11.9)? Since there would be raptured, outside itself, at high altitudes, in admirable contemplation? As there would be no wonder to see the mother, she is a virgin, and full of joy, Mother of God? Maria understood that it was to fulfill the promises made to the patriarchs, the prophets and oracles of the wishes of their ancestors, who were waiting with all my heart.
She sees the Son of God delivered to it; rejoice for having been entrusted with the salvation of the world. And hears the Lord God tell you in my heart: 'I chose you from everything created; you blessed among women (Lk 1:42); I gave my son in your hands; I trusted you my only begotten. Do not be afraid to breastfeed one who generated, not to raise the floor one who gave birth. He learns that he is not only your God but also your son. It's my son, and thy son is my son by divinity, your son for humanity in you took. "With that affection and that zeal, that humility and that respect with that love and that devotion will not have Mary answered to this call! Men may not know it, but God knows, He who searches the minds and hearts (Ps 7.10). [...] Blessed is she who has been given to create one who protects and feeds all, have the hands one who sustains the whole universe.

If what you heard from the beginning remains in you, you will abide in the Son and the Father 25And this is the promise which he promised us, even eternal life. 26Escrevo this about those who are trying to mislead you. 27Quanto yourselves, the anointing which you received from Jesus remains with you, and you have no need that anyone teach you. His anointing teaches you everything, and it is true and not a liar. Therefore, as the anointing of Jesus has taught you, abide in him. 28Então now, little children, abide in him. - Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah!
- Once you have spoken in the past to the fathers by the prophets, often in our days God has spoken to us by his Son (Heb 1,1s).
Proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint John:
19Este is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent from Jerusalem priests and Levites to ask, "Who are you?" 20João confessed and did not deny. He confessed: "I am not the Messiah." 21Eles asked, "Who are you, then? ? Are you Elijah "John answered," I am. " They asked: "Are you the Prophet?" He answered: "No". 22Perguntaram then: "Who are you, anyway? We have to give an answer to those who sent us. What do you say to yourself "23João said:" I am the voice crying in the wilderness, 'Make straight the way of the Lord' "- as the prophet Isaiah said. 24Ora, who had been sent belonged to the Pharisees 25e asked, "Why then thou baptize, if you are not the Messiah or Elijah or the Prophet" 26João replied, "I baptize with water; but among you it is one that you do not know, 27e coming after me. I do not deserve to untie the strap of his sandals. " 28Isso happened in Bethany beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing.

- Praise to you, Lord
Comment of the day by St. Gregory the Great, Pope, Doctor of the Church
Catechesis on the Gospel, paragraph 7

"In the midst of you is someone you do not know: He who comes after me»
"I baptize in water; but among you is someone you do not know. "It is the Spirit, but the water that John baptizes. Unable to forgive sins, wash with water the body of the baptized, but do not wash the spirit for forgiveness. So why baptize him, does not forgive our sins with His baptism? Why, except to remain in its precursor role? Such as being born, preceded the Lord to be born, so, baptizing precedes the Lord was going to baptize. Precursor of Christ by his preaching, it was also giving a baptism that was an image of the sacrament what was to come.
John announced a mystery when he declared that Christ was in the midst of men and they did not know Him, for the Lord, when He revealed in the flesh, was at once visible on her body and invisible in his majesty. And John adds: "He who comes after me ranks before me" (Jn 1:15) [...]; and explains the causes of the superiority of Christ when you need it, "Why was before me," as if to say clearly: "If it's superior to me, having been born after me, is because the time of his birth not The restricted within the its limits. Born of a mother at the time, it was generated by the Father out of time. "
John expresses humble respect him must, continuing: ". I am not worthy to untie the strap of his sandals" It was customary among the ancients that if someone refused to marry a young man who was betrothed to him, untie the sandal to come to be her husband. Now Christ revealed himself as the Spouse of the Holy Church. [...] But because men thought John was the Christ - which John himself denied - he declares himself unworthy to untie the strap of his sandal. It is as if to say clearly [...]: "I do not incorrectly adopt the husband's name" (Jn 3.29).
