Gospel of the day: St. Mark 1, 40-45
First reading: Samuel 4: 1-11
Reading the First Book of Samuel:
1In those days, the Philistines gathered together to make war against Israel. Israel went out against the Philistines, camping near Eben-Ezer, while the Philistines, for their part, advanced to Aphek 2e put themselves in battle line before Israel. Fought the battle, Israel was defeated by the Philistines. And they died in that encounter in the open country, about four thousand men. 3The people returned to the camp, and the elders of Israel said, "Why did the Lord that today we were defeated by the Philistines? We will seek to Shiloh the ark of the covenant of the Lord that she is among us and save us from the hand of our enemies. " 4Then the people sent for Shiloh the ark of the covenant of the Lord Almighty, who sits on the cherubim. The two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, accompanied the ark. 5When the ark of the covenant of the Lord arrived at the camp, all Israel broke a great cry that resounded throughout the land. 6The Philistines heard it, said, "What is this uproar so great in the Hebrew camp?" And they understood that the ark of the LORD had come to the camp. 7The Philistines were afraid and said, "God has come into the camp!" And lamented-: 8 "Woe to us! Because the Hebrews were not with the joy either yesterday or the day before yesterday. Woe to us! Who will save us from the hand of these so powerful gods? They were the ones that plagued Egypt with all manner of plagues in the wilderness. 9 But courage, Philistines, quit you like men, that ye be not servants to the Hebrews as they have been to you! Be men and then fight! 10Then the Philistines launched the fight, Israel was defeated and every man fled to his tent. The massacre was great: the Israeli side fell thirty thousand men. 11A ark of God was captured and killed the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas.

Ps 43 (44)
- But now the forsaken and humbled, no longer salts with our troops to war! You have made us retreat before the enemy, opponents in looted at will.
A: Deliver us, Lord, for your compassion!
- From us you made a mockery of the neighbors, ridicule and mockery of those around us; for the heathen are anecdotes of reason, make fun of us to shake his head.
A: Deliver us, Lord, for your compassion!
- Arise, O Lord, why do you sleep? Awake! Do not leave us forever! Why do you hide in your face and forgetting our oppression, our misery?
A: Deliver us, Lord, for your compassion!
Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Mark 1: 40-45
- Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah!
- Jesus preached the good news, announcing the kingdom, and healing all manner of disease among the people (Mt 4:23);
Proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Mark:
At that time, 40 a leper came to Jesus, and jolehos, asked: "If you want, you have the power to heal me." 41Jesus, full of compassion, reached out and touched him and said, "I want: is cured" 42No once, leprosy disappeared, and he was healed. 43Então Jesus immediately sent him away, 44 saying firmly: "Do not tell any of this to ,! No One Go, show yourself to the priest and offer for your cleansing what Moses commanded as proof to them!" He was 45 and began counting and disclose the fact. So Jesus could no longer openly enter into a city: was outside in deserted places. And from everywhere came to him.

Comment of the day by St. John of the Cross (1542-1591), Carmelite barefoot, Doctor of the Church
The Living Flame of Love, stanza 2

"Jesus reached out and touched him"
O Divine Life, Thou shalt not burrows to kill, but to give life; Do not feres, but to heal. When punish, burrows slightly and that is enough to consume the world. When afagas, lieth deliberately thy strong hand, the sweetness of your caress does not measure. O Divine Hand, hurt me to heal; you do die on me which deprives me of the life of God, in whom I now see me alive. And you do that by your generous grace, through the touch of one who is "the splendor of your glory, the figure of thy substance" (Heb 1.3), your only Son, thy wisdom that "extends to force a end to the other of the world "(Sat 8.1). He, thine only Son, merciful hand of the Father, is the delicate touch that touched me, it struck and burned within.
O delicate touch, Word Son of God, you freeloaders subtly in our soul by the gentleness of your divine being; touch her so gently that absorves fully in You, a so divine and so smoothly "than ever this is heard in Canaan, never so seen in the country of Teman" (Bar 3:22). O delicate touch of the Word, as more delicate to me as, knocking the mountains and breaking the rocks of Mount Horeb by the shadow of power Te preceded, You did feel the prophet Elijah so smoothly and strong "in the air whisper delicate» (1 Kings 19,11). As thou slight and subtle breeze? Tell me how burrows so so light and delicate, O Word, Son of God, you who are so powerful and terrible. Happy, a thousand times happy, the soul you touch so delicate way! [...] "You guards in the secret of thy face, that is, from your Word, your Son, under the intrigues of men" (Ps 30.21).
